While you may have heard yellow can make you agitated, a color specialist for the Pantone Color Institute tells CNN that’s all just rumors.
She said it was made up by some guy named Carleton Wagner who led a school for “people interested in color.” The specialist has conducted word association studies on color for over three decades.
She says they show people associate the color with “warmth,” “happiness,” and, you know, “sunshine.”
There’s not much evidence suggesting yellow actually has a biological effect on its own… but it is used to tint glasses for some people with seasonal affective disorder to block out blue light and avoid oversleeping.
So forget all the bad press that yellow — the alleged color of cowardice, that dumb M&M, and deciding whether to brake or take your life into your hands — has received over the years and say “yellow” to a whole new world of color scheme possibilities.
