A Few Fourth Of July Myths

Here’s some 4th of July fact of fiction for you!

The Declaration of Independence was declared on July 4th. Nope, July 2nd was actually the day, but America adopted the 4th as Independence Day.

What about the signing of the Declaration on the 4th of July? Wrong again, August 2nd is when most delegates signed it. The signing was not on a single day.

Betsy Ross was NOT the first to sew the flag. A “guy” named Frances Hopkinson “designed” the first flag, but no on knows who sewed it. Sorry Betsy. She was a seamstress and made many government flags.

The Liberty Bell rang in our Independence, it was on July 8th.

BTW, the fireworks tradition didn’t catch on until 1777.
