Help Name The New Baby Giraffe At The Maryland Zoo

The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore’s announced the birth of a female giraffe calf! Born on Monday, February 6, 2017, to four-year-old Juma (joo-ma) and eleven-year-old Caesar, this new calf is the first giraffe to be born at the Zoo in over 20 years!

Now they need your help naming her. Cast your VOTE HERE!

Here are the names chosen to vote on:
Imara (means strong, resolute in Swahili)

Safara (a name of African origin which means fire)

Willow (willow trees are slender and graceful like the calf will be – or already is!)

Ruby (because she’s a rare and precious gem)

Opal (a name from Sanskrit literally meaning “jewel”)

Dottie (the calf has a unique spot in the shape of a dot positioned perfectly above each hoof)

Voting ends Thursday, February 23rd at 8 am!
