Thursday is a big day for Baltimore’s famous blue crabs…the annual Preakness Crab Derby is at 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Find out where and what happens…
Lexington Market in “crab chaos”, as local celebs race their crabs for charity money. I won one year and placed third another year. So I know a little bit about this “derby”. They equip you with a stick and a ping pong ball dangling from the end of the stick. You get a spray water bottle and a blue crab. The first crab over the finish line wins. There is a trick: I picked a feisty crab out of Faidely’s Crab barrel. Then, dangle the ball for a few minutes before start time, to get him interested. Spray the water on him from time to time to keep him hydrated. It worked for me!
