Just One Sock
As I was taking a walk the other day, I happened to notice a lone sock hanging on a fence post. Apparently someone found this lonesome, single sock and wanted it to be returned to its rightful owner. Of course it got my over-active mind going…whose sock is it? How does someone lose a sock outside? What were the circumstances? Which of course made me think about all those lonely shoes you see on the side of the road. How does that happen? How does someone lose ONE shoe on a highway? It’s fun to make up stories to go along with the shoes, socks and lonesome scarves we see along the road. A teacher once told me that I am a sensationalist because I like to make up stories about other people’s lives. Another thing I love to do is to take a walk at night and glance into houses to see people gathered around their dining room tables and wonder about their lives. Does that sound creepy? Haha
So the next time you take a road trip with your family, you might want to pass the time by spinning tales about items on the side of the road. It may make the drive a bit more bearable and help the kids to ask, “Are we there yet,” a little less frequently.
