Cleaning and Scrubbing can wait ’til tomorrow,
For babies grow up we’ve learned to our sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs and dust go to sleep;
I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.

As I tried to say this on the air this morning, I actually got choked up and had tears streaming down my face after we turned off the mics. When I was pregnant with my son, someone gave me a card with that poem on it and I have tried to keep it in mind whenever I feel stressed out about the state of my house. Some days when I am cleaning, I simply aside put my cleaning supplies and ask my 13-year-old son if he would like to play a game or go for a walk. That feels way better than a clean house does. Don’t get me wrong, I do not like to live with clutter, etc. but my son is not going to be 13 forever. I treasure every day I have with this boy.

So, the next time you get stressed out by the piles of laundry, mail and other detritus of family life, try to remember that:

Cleaning and Scrubbing can wait ’til tomorrow,
For babies grow up we’ve learned to our sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs and dust go to sleep;
I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.
