A sense of community is alive and well in my neighborhood.
In this day and age, with computers, TV, video games, etc. I think a lot of us tend to stay indoors. Because of this, many of us don’t get to know our neighbors, etc.
I have a story to share which demonstrates that community spirit is still alive and well in some places.
We live in an old Victorian home in the city and have wide, steep steps which lead up to our front proch. Well, these steps can get quite treacherous during the winter months. Instead of our mailman complaining or simply leaving our mail at the bottom of the steps, he came up with a solution.
He refurbished an old rural mailbox for us! He painted it white, put it on a wooden post, which he painted black and then put our address right on the front. On Sunday, this sweet man stopped by our home with a six pack of beer, a bottle of wine and the new mailbox.
I am so touched by this lovely gesture that I want to spread the word. Just a simple act of kindness that made my day. What can you do today to spread the spirit of the season?
