Halloween is the perfect time to visit a cemetery, and what better cemetery to visit than Baltimore’s historic Green Mount Cemetery? This is the Booth family plot at the cemetery. John Wilkes Booth, President Lincoln’s assassin, is buried there along with his famous family of actors. Visitors often place pennies on the gravesite, Lincoln side up in honor of the President.

Edwin Booth (brother of John Wilkes) commissioned stone masons to inscribe on the back of the 20 foot high monument: “To the memory of the children of Junius Booth and Mary Ann Booth” – “John Wilkes, Frederick, Elizabeth, Mary Ann, Henry Byron.”

Years later, Mary Ann was laid to rest beside her husband, Junius, and over time more of her children were buried next to her: Asia, Joseph, and Rosalie.
