On one of their largest and longest tours so far, FUN. embarked on their “Most Nights” summer tour with supporting act, Tegan and Sara, in mid-June and will continue touring until mid-October. With almost every night playing to sold out arenas, it is no wonder this band that topped the charts with their hit singles “We Are Young” and “Some Nights” from their sophomore album “Some Nights,” takes the time to let the crowd know how humbled they are by the experience and the dedication. On Saturday, July 20, close to 15,000 FUN. fans swarmed to a sold out show at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md.

Tegan and Sara, a twin-fronted group from Canada, opened the night with their set list packed full of songs from their newest album, “Heartthrob,” with a good response from the crowd. With severe thunderstorms rolling into the area towards the end of their set, some fans were concerned about the show going on and FUN. taking the stage, but despite Mother Nature making them go on a few minutes late, they certainly did not disappoint.

Just as the album “Some Nights” begins with a short, theatrical intro, the show began with all three members, Nate, Jack and Andrew, in full suit and tie with nothing but a spotlight shinning on them while performing the operatic “Some Nights – Intro” as the beginning of what will turn into non-stop entertainment for almost two and a half hours.

Although FUN.’s first album, “Aim and Ignite” did not rock the charts as much as their most recent release, FUN. fans that had been around since the conception of the band were in for a treat with more than half of the first album being incorporated into the setlist, including songs like “The Gambler,” “All The Pretty Girls,” and “Barlights,” all of which were warmly welcomed by the crowd. For the newer fans used to the radio-spot regulars, “We Are Young” and “Some Nights,” they surprisingly had to wait until the end of the night to sing along to their favorite “party power ballads.”

Between the entire stage covered in LED lights and video-feed screens, the band members and their instruments (which also included pianos, keyboards, trumpets and drums) spread into each corner, confetti blasts, sing-a-longs of “oh de na na’s” and more, drum solos, and what must’ve looked like an extremely large dance party from bird’s eye view, and the torrential downpour soaking the fans on the lawn, the spectacle that is FUN. continued to provide entertainment for everyone.

Overall, despite the lightning, humidity, sweat-dripping crowds, and rain, 15,000 people left the pavilion with smiles from ear to ear and the words “What an amazing show” on their lips.
