Actress Bette Davis and her actor husband, Gary Merrill bought it for $28,000. Gary Merrill was regarded as an eccentric. Merrill gained attention by putting a donkey in the back of his Cadillac convertible and driving through town. The lighthouse was featured in the 1999 film, Snow Falling on Cedars.
