This year’s Tony Awards pits a little girl with a very wild imagination against a man who sure knows how to make a good pair of high-heeled boots.

Cyndi Lauper‘s musical Kinky Boots earned 13 nominations, including Best Musical and Best Original Score, edging out Matilda, which earned itself a whopping 12 noms.

Based on the 2005 British film, Lauper wrote the music and lyrics for the play about a family-owned English shoe factory struggling to avoid bankruptcy by producing fetish footwear for drag artists rather than the men’s shoes they made previously.

Lauper took to Twitter to share her excitement over the accolades.

Kinky Boots’ writer Harvey Fierstein earned a nomination for Best Book of a Musical, while actors Billy Porter and Stark Sands got nods for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical. Annaleigh Ashford also received a nom for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical for Kinky Boots.

Kinky Boots also earned noms for Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations, pitting the play against Matilda, A Christmas Story and Bring It On

The Tony Awards broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall on CBS June 9.

For a full list of the nominees, go to CBS New York.
