Barum’s Animal Crackers have been a kid’s treat since 1902. Over 40 million boxes of the Nabisco cookie is sold every year. Ever wondered why there is a string attached to the box. The simple answer would be to carry the box, right? Wrong. Apparently the string on a box of Barum’s Animal Crackers was added for another reason in 1902. At Christmas time, the boxes were hung on the tree as decoration for kids. Up to that time, the cookies were sold in bulk. How convenient was that, snacks on a tree!
