What’s on your iPod might help you in the bedroom.

A recent study by music psychologist Dr. Daniel Müllensiefen from Goldsmiths, University of London for Spotify found that 40% of people felt that the music they listened to during sex was more likely to turn them on than the touch or feel of their partner.

“It is no surprise that so many respondents claimed to find music arousing in the bedroom,” Dr. Müllensiefen explained in a statement. “From neuro-scientific research we know that music can activate the same pleasure centers of the brain that also respond to much less abstract rewards such as food, drugs or indeed sex.”

When it came to the music that couples play in the bedroom the Dirty Dancing Soundtrack topped the list. Yes, when the study interviewed 2,000 men and women ranging from 18 to 91 years old, the number one answer was any song from the 1987 film.

While this choice might surprise most people (excluding Ryan Gosling, of course), Dr. Müllensiefen managed to find a scientific explanation to why so many chose the classic soundtrack.

“The fact that Dirty Dancing has come top on the list of the best tracks to play during sex for both men and women is due to the fact that most people have a good knowledge of songs that represent romance and these tend to be from cultural references such as film,” he said. “People use this music to not only communicate their intentions in a romantic situation but to directly alter the mood during an encounter.”

Rounding out the top five songs to play during sex was Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing,” Ravel “Bolero,” Berlin “Take My Breath Away” and anything from Barry White’s collection.

The study also found that Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” was voted number one on the list of songs that were better than sex. While Chris DeBurgh’s “Lady in Red” was considered one of the best songs for a romantic dinner and for flirting on the dance floor.
