Beyonce and Carole King Join Alicia Keys To Honor Oprah In New York

Alicia Keys is showing her admiration for Oprah by honoring her at the Keep a Child Alive Black Ball event this fall in New York with a little help from Beyoncé and Carole King.

The ninth annual charity event, which takes place on November 1 at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom, is set to celebrate “the power of women and the promise of an AIDS-free Africa.”  Emceed by Whoopi Goldberg, the night will also honor Beninoise singer-songwriter and activist Angélique Kidjo for her philanthropic work.

Alicia expressed her excitement over the event, which celebrates women that are working to make this world a better place.

“Carole King is an inspirational musician who blazed the trail for women in the music industry and I’m honored to have her perform at the Black Ball,” Alicia said in a statement. “With the amazing Beyoncé, Angélique Kidjo, the female-led group Alabama Shakes, and Whoopi Goldberg as our emcee, women will be rocking the house this year.”

In 2003, Keys co-founded Keep A Child Alive to help provide medication and support to those in Africa and India suffering from AIDS/HIV.

The Black Ball is a special benefit that helps raise money for children and families affected by the disease and has honored celebrities like Bill Clinton and Bono for their charity work. Proceeds from the event will help Keep a Child Alive fund clinical and orphan projects in India, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa.

The Black Ball has raised nearly $16 million since 2004.
