Casey Abrams knows a thing or two about interpreting other people’s songs. That might be why he gets such a kick out of fans trying to do the same with his.

“I want to see how people interpret my songs because I interpret my own songs differently live than on the record,” he told CBS Local. “I’ll probably sing it differently each time because that’s what music is. Seeing what one creative mind is thinking when they hear the music is just awesome.”

Recently, Casey even came across a guy on YouTube who took a stab at “Simple Life,” the latest single from his self-titled debut.

The fan, who goes by MajorRajorTS, did his own stripped down version of the song, which is all about enjoying the simple pleasures in this world.

Casey even left a comment for the Virginian fan on his YouTube page to let him know how much he appreciated the cover from a fellow bass player.

“I was like, this is awesome, you know?” Casey said.

The former Idol had a similar experience after he performed Nat King Cole’s classic song, “Nature Boy.”

Cole’s wife reached out to Casey and sent him some recordings and DVDs that he still watches till this day.

The season 10 contestant was best known for putting his own spin on songs that seemed to run the gamut from “Harder to Breath” by Maroon 5 to Elton John’s “Your Song” to “Smells Like Teen Spirit” from Nirvana. Now, he’d like to see different artists put their own unique spin on his music.

“I want there to be cross-genre mixing,” he said. “I want to see like a big country artist cover some of my songs. I think they could be countrified.”

So does Casey have any plans to go country?

“Maybe a little later in life,” he said. “Under a different name or maybe an alias.”
