Barbra Streisand Announces Tour Dates, Honors Marvin Hamlisch
Barbra Streisand announced she’s heading out on tour, appearing in a few lucky cities this fall.
The singer was already scheduled to headline two nights at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY on October 11 and 13, but Babs has now added six additional dates that month.
She’ll kick off the tour on October 8 in Philadelphia, PA before making four stops in Canada and one in Chicago. Trumpeter Chris Botti and teen opera sensations, Il Volo, will open for Barbra on all eight dates.
Since there has been no announcement of a new album, fans can expect Barbra to perform the hits from her nearly fifty-year career including “The Way We Were,” written by Marvin Hamlisch, who passed away August 6.
Streisand called the composer, who also co-wrote the song “Nobody Does It Better” sung by Carly Simon from the 1977 James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me, “a beautiful human being.”
“Just last night, I was trying to reach him, to tell him how much I loved him, and that I wanted to use an old song of his, that I had just heard for the first time,” Streisand said in a statement on her website. “He was a true musical genius, but above all that, he was a beautiful human being. I will truly miss him.”
Hamlisch also served as musical director of Streisand’s 1994 concert tour and the television special Barbra Streisand: The Concert, which won him two Emmys.
