Beach beauty Colbie Caillat took some time out of her current tour with Gavin DeGraw to fill CBS Local in on her makeup suggestions for summer essentials and why she’ll never go goth.

“In my purse I always keep some face powder and lip gloss. I’m constantly putting ChapStick or lip gloss on, it’s like an addiction,” she admitted. “And lotion and some perfume. Those are the main things that I take everywhere.”

The California native said she loves peachy colors especially during the summer.

“I love bright colors right now, peach and pink lip glosses,” she said. “I never go dark. I don’t ever wear red lipstick or anything like that. More neutral but the beachier vibrant kind.”

Not one for trends, Colbie revealed that she tries to keep from buying something that won’t pass the test of time.

“Sometimes I stop myself from buying something that’s very trendy because it’s not going to be timeless in a few months or a year so I’m not going to like it anymore,” she said. “I love having the clothes in my closet that are your yearly go-to’s like your favorite jacket or your favorite pair of shoes that go with anything. I go with whatever is cute and fits my style.”

Glad that bright colors are the current style, Colbie filled us in on one trend she’ll never take part in referencing Katy Perry’s new goth style.

“I’m never going to go goth,” she said. “I’m not really a dark person like that. Even if I have a bad day I want to put something white or bright on to make me cheer up.”

Colbie recently partnered with Lily. B, a skincare line that she uses and loves.

“I really wanted to work with them because it’s an all natural product and it’s not tested on animals,” she said. “When I use the skincare it feels really good and light and natural.”

Colbie admitted she doesn’t wear much makeup and Lily. B allows her skin to feel fresh.

“I feel like my skin can breathe easily and it looks really good,” she said. “Once I started using it I asked them if I could partner up with them and help them get their name out there.”

Catch Colbie on the road this summer with Gavin DeGraw and Andy Grammer.
