Hausner’s Famous Strawberry Pie

Remember Hausner’s in East Baltimore. I miss that place.  When I worked in country music radio, we would take all of the country artists to eat there.  Alan Jackson, Clint Black and so many others.  There was a simple reason why we would go to Hausner’s.  They had anything and everything on the menu but one of the most popular, was the Strawberry Pie.  I have had this recipe for few years.  Everyone agrees, this is the one!  So just in case you missed my post, last year, here you go.  Enjoy!
The Baltimore Favorite: Hausner’s Strawberry Pie
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 teaspoons strawberry flavoring
1/2 teaspoon red food color
1 1/2 cups boiling water
3 tablespoons cornstarch dissolved in 1/2 cup water
1 prebaked deep 9-inch pie shell
1 1/2 pints fresh strawberries, washed, hulled and kept whole if small or cut in half if large.
Make a glaze by adding sugar, strawberry flavoring and food color to boiling water in a saucepan. Add dissolved cornstarch and stir over medium to high heat until it thickens

    for the strawberry pie – did I miss the end of the recipe? what do we do after we make the glaze? is there no whipped topping or something on top of the pie?

      I could only find the pie recipe, not a whipped topping. I guess that’s up to you, to ‘whip’ up! Maybe try whisking fresh cream. Better yet, get an organic cream for the freshest.
