Susanna Hoffs Goes Solo…Again

For anyone who thought Susanna Hoffs could only “Walk Like An Egyptian,” she’s managed to prove them wrong. Twenty-six years after the release of that song the Bangles singer has 10 full-length studio albums under her belt, and is getting ready to release her third solo recording.

Someday, due out July 17, is Hoffs’ love letter to the ’60s with ten original songs that get to the heart of pop music. For this, she worked with Nashville musician Andrew Brassell, a 27-year-old singer/songwriter from Tennessee. “The project started with me, this talented boy from Nashville, two guitars and a reverb pedal,” says Hoffs.

She also got a chance to revisit some older songs like a “Raining,” something she wrote back in 1987 with guitarist Mike Campbell from the Heartbreakers (Tom Petty’s band) and “November Sun,” a song Hoffs says she’s had in her back pocket since 1998. She also got another chance to work with producer Mitchell Froom, who played the signature keyboard riff on the Bangles’ “Manic Monday.”

In addition to Someday, the singer has kept herself busy as of late making albums and touring with the Bangles, plus working on her Under The Covers series with Matthew Sweet (which features them reworking songs from the Bee Gees, Rod Stewart and Fleetwood Mac). This is her first solo project since 1996.

Fans in the L.A. area will get a preview of Someday when Hoffs performs at McCabe’s Guitar Shop in Santa Monica on April 28. Keep an eye out for more tour dates to be announced soon.
