Pigtown Sign

Baltimore’s Pigtown, sometimes known as Washington Village, got its name from the scores of pigs that would be herded through its narrow streets every day from B&O railroad station to the slaughter houses…

…and today is well-known across the country for its annual eclectic Pigtown Festival. Bordered by Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. on the east, Monroe Street on the west, Russell Street to the south, and the B&O Railroad Museum to the north, Pigtown is also known as the birthplace of the famous baseball player Babe Ruth. Pictured above is a sign welcoming visitors to Pigtown. Below is a Pigtown mural on Washington Blvd. created by Augustina Droze.
