Nite Lite Photo Of The Day~
You won’t find a broader range of of beautiful 19th and early 20th century Baltimore sculpture than at Green Mount Cemetery…
The bronze sculpture “Memory” at the Riggs Memorial of 1911 in Green Mount Cemetery shows a mourning woman draped over a step holding in one hand a wreath and in the other a drooping flower. It was sculpted by Hans Schuler, the first American sculptor ever to win the Salon Gold Medal. His works are in several important museum collections, and he also created many public monuments, mostly for locations in Maryland and in the Washington, D.C., area. For over a quarter of a century he served as president of the Maryland Institute College of Art.
This is just one example of the fascinating sculpture you’ll encounter at Baltimore’s historic Green Mount Cemetery. It’s like a visit to an art gallery. Beautiful.
