Twenty-five months to the day after the passing of [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Michael Jackson[/lastfm], his parents and siblings announced that there would be a tribute concert scheduled for October in Wales.
According to MTV.CO.UK, the show is scheduled to take place on October 8th at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium, in Wales, United Kingdom.
The Michael Jackson Forever Tribute Concert press conference was attended by Michael’s mother Katherine, LaToya, Tito, Marlon, and Jackie on Monday in Los Angeles to announce the show.
At the press conference, mother Katherine said:
This is a world-class event so I decided to join in. When I was told about the possible lineup I knew it would be an event fit for a king. I’d like to thank all the fans who have kept supporting us. Thank you all so much for keeping my son’s legacy alive.
However, all is not well with the entire Jackson family. Randy and Jermaine Jackson both feel that the timing for the event is inappropriate due to the fact that Michael’s former doctor, Conrad Murray, is still on trial for manslaughter.
The two brothers tweeted:
While we wholeheartedly support the spirit of a tribute that honours our brother, we find it impossible to support an event that is due to take place during the criminal trial surrounding Michael’s death… we feel it is inappropriate to be involved with such an ill-timed event and its promoter, Global Live.
They went on to tweet:
Furthermore, the decision to proceed with this concert disrespects opinions and wishes expressed in the strongest terms to Global Live during conversations in April when this event was presented to the majority of the family as an idea already in its advanced stages.
In closing, they wrote:
There will come a time and place for an amazing and deserving tribute to Michael. But we feel that the most important tribute we can give to our brother at this time is to seek justice in his name.
Jermaine also graciously replied to the concerns of fans via Twitter:
He also addressed what appears to be a consistent lack of communication between the entire Jackson clan:
Amazingly, there is a tremendous buzz about the concert, and yet not one artist has announced they will be performing at the historic event. Despite that, tickets are scheduled to begin selling on Wednesday, August 3rd.
Funds are to benefit three charities including AIDS Project Los Angeles.
