Without our mothers, whether our relationship with them is good or bad, we wouldn’t even exist. Mothers are most often the providers of a sense of home and a kind of fearlessness because we have faith that no matter what they will be there for us. Mothers often have the ability to see us for who we truly are, what our real worth is, and they give us hope everything will be ok.
In honor of Mother’s Day, this week for Mindful Monday, we’ve chosen five songs from artists like [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Taylor Swift[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes[/lastfm], and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Alicia Keys[/lastfm] about some of these gifts our mothers give us.

“Home is not where you live, but where they understand you.”-Christian Morganstern
One usually overwhelming maternal instinct is to provide shelter and sanctuary for her children–whether that be physical or spiritual. When I was a child, I remember being scolded by my mother for doing something bad and then immediately running to her arms after she got mad at me. Regardless of whether or not I was in trouble, my mother always provided that sense of home and comfort for me. A peaceful place where I could exclaim,
“Home is whenever I’m with you.” Thank you to all moms for giving us that feeling of home!
Tuesday, May 3rd: “Fearless'”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Taylor Swift[/lastfm]
“Let us not pray to be sheltered from dangers but to be fearless when facing them” –Rabindranath Tagore
A skilled mother will prepare us for the world and assuage our fears rather than shelter us from all the evils of the world. Just like animal mothers, human mothers have to teach their children to be fearless, so that they too can one day be functioning adults. It is a hard job for a mother to educate her child to be a strong individual who doesn’t need her mother, but a necessary one.
Thank you to all moms for teaching us how to be fearless and meeting problems head on!
Wednesday, May 4th: “Video”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Indie.Arie[/lastfm]
“Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else” –Judy Garland
No matter what you look like, your mom will always think you are beautiful. Mom’s look past the flaws and just see their gorgeous child that possesses unique characteristics that makes them always special.
Thank you to all moms for making us feel special and beautiful even if we aren’t perfect!
Thursday, May 5th: “A Woman’s Worth”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Alicia Keys[/lastfm]
“One is not born a woman, one becomes one.”-Simone de Beauvoir
In this male-dominated world, sometimes it is hard to feel worthwhile as a woman. If anyone were to really understand that feeling, it’s our mothers. No woman is perfect in her actions, not even our practically flawless moms, but mothers provide inspiration our whole lives for how we view our self-worth as women.
Thank you to all the moms that taught us to recognize our strength and power as women!
Friday, May 6th: “Don’t Stop Believin'”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Journey[/lastfm]
“Through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive it.”-Bill Cosby
The most important thing our mothers can teach us is faith and hope. Without these two traits, we’d not be able to function in the real world without our mother’s care. Our mother’s teach us to have faith in how the world unfolds and to hope for the best–no matter what. With that kind of mentality, anything seems possible.
Thank you to all the mom’s that taught us to look on the bright side of life!
