Falls Road Bare Hills House

There are a lot of great old houses along Falls Road, but this beauty really stands out. Built around 1845, this notable house set a little back from the road is a prime example of…

…the Rural Gothic style that was popular in the mid-nineteenth century. Sitting on a stone foundation, the house is built entirely of wood. The Bare Hills House, which is on the National Register of Historic Places has four large rooms downstairs and two fireplaces; upstairs are five bedrooms and a central hall with odd planes and angles because of the steeply pitched gables.

The area is named Bare Hills because plants do not grow very well in the rocky soil. In fact, in the mid-and-late-nineteenth century several mines and quarries were in operation in the vicinity. This treasure is still proudly standing and doing well.  All this week The Nite Lite Photo of the Day has featured scenes of Falls Road.
