After an introduction, the lights came up on three violinists as Mars delivered a soft, softer rendition of the hit with B.o.B.’s smooth low-key rap.

After a short video clip, Mars re-emerged in black and white to perform a doo-wop style version of “Grenade.”

An emotional strong vocal performance by Janelle Monae rounded out the set, bringing a standing ovation from Cyndi Lauper and all in the crowd.
