ROSEDALE, Md. (WJZ) Elvis is back in the building. As WJZ reported, thieves made off with the Elvis statue on the roof of a popular Rosedale diner about three weeks ago. The statue was found Tuesday.
Ron Matz reports the damaged fiberglass statue is about to get a makeover.
George Kropkowski was all shook up when he saw something between two priestly statues at the Gardens of Faith Cemetery.
“I live right down the street. A lot of times I stop here to visit my dad, he’s buried here in the graveyard. I was driving up the street and out of the corner of my eye I saw this thing in the archway. It stunned me for a second. I looked over and I said, ‘That’s Elvis. Elvis is in the house. Can you believe that?’ said Kopkowski. “I called my son and said, ‘Would you believe what’s sitting in front of me? It’s Elvis.’ I told him to check it out and he came over and picked it up and took it back to the restaurant.”
For George’s son, Steve it was now or never. He put Elvis in his truck, not wanting to leave the six foot fiberglass statue in the graveyard.
“I picked him up and put him in my truck. If I left him here he might be stolen again. I drove him over to Maria and got hugs and kisses. Elvis is back home,” Steve said.
“Steve called me and said my dad just went by the cemetery and saw Elvis there. I thought he was joking. He said he would call back. I waited five minutes and before I knew it he’s pulling up with Elvis on his shoulder, bringing him in,” said Maria Pigiaditis, owner of the Happy Day Diner. “It’s great. I’m glad they didn’t try to dispose of him, breaking him up and throwing him somewhere. I’m just glad he’s back.”
