O’s Fans need to honor this man!
I’m so glad Brooks Robinson is going to be part of the Orioles opening day ceremonies. But as O’s fans, we have to do one thing…

When Brooks Robinson and Boog Powell throw out the first pitch tomorrow at Oriole Park, we need to scream as loud as we can and throw huge love their way. In particular, we need to give a long standing ovation to, number 5, Brooks Robinson. Now, I don’t want to sound like I’m snubbing Boog Powell. Boog was the other corner of the infield and a major player in the 60’s and 70’s. We see him almost everyday at Camden Yards. We’ve given him long term love for years in person at the BBQ pit. But, when was the last time you saw Brooksie? It’s been a long time.
I’m not sure what happened with the O’s/Brooks relationship. And, I always scratch my head when I think about York, PA having a statue of Brooks when there isn’t a “bronzed Brooks” right next to Babe Ruth at Oriole Park. (Johnny U. has one at Ravens Stadium) I remember Chuck Thompson and Brooks Robinson broadcasting the games on Channel 2 in the 80’s. So, why is he not sitting right next to Gary Thorne and Jim Palmer in the booth now? The other thing I wonder is why isn’t there a huge #5 on the warehouse wall…or a 2632 for Cal, but that’s a different story.
With all the questions about Brooks in my head over the last 20 years, I’m seriously excited that things may be changing. In addition to opening day ceremonies the O’s are doing a Brooks Robinson bobblehead with Brooks holding a gold glove.
April 9th 2010 should be a day that Brooks Robinson, who’s had some personal struggles with prostate cancer, remembers forever. So when he and Boog step on the field a little before 3pm, the stadium should sound like it did in the 1997 playoffs against the Yankees. The ovation and excitement should make the hair on Brooks’ neck stand up. The ovation and excitement should make Brooks feel like a hero again. It should make him feel like what he’s known for..Mr. Oriole.
